Lesson Five ~ El Shaddai, Part Three

"Is there anything too hard for the LORD?"

In Genesis 18:1-15, The LORD and two men (angels) visit Abraham. Abraham is hospitable to them and instructed Sarah and a servant to quickly make them a meal. They asked him where Sarah was and he said she was in the tent. The LORD said that he would come back in a year, and at that time, Sarah would have a son. Sarah was listening from inside the tent, and she laughed to herself when she heard the LORD prophesy about their child.

"The Lord said "Why did Sarah laugh, and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is there anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son. Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said "Yes, you did laugh." Genesis 18:13-15.

We need to take God at his word, in spite of circumstances that tell us something other than what God has promised. Notice that the LORD spoke this promise two times in this passage. Once, before Sarah laughed, and once after she laughed. We have to get to the place, like Abraham did, where we will believe, trust and obey the LORD even when it doesn't make any sense to us. The LORD also wants us to get a revelation that he can be taken at his word. What he says he will do, he will do. We serve a faithful God. He wants us to realize that nothing is impossible for him. God makes a way where there appears to be no way.

  • "There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD." Proverbs 21:30

  • "For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?" Isaiah 14:27 (God's prophecy against Syria.)

  • “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Mark 9:23 (Jesus speaking to the father of a mute boy who had an evil spirit.)

  • "For with God nothing shall be impossible." Luke 1:37 (Gabriel speaking to Mary.)

  • “With man this is impossible, but not with God: All things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27 (Jesus speaking about salvation.)

Summary ~

El Shaddai, the Almighty God, will accomplish what he has spoken. He can do what no one can do. He has done what we see as impossible. He spoke the world into existence! The bible is LOADED with countless acts that only God could do! He will continue to accomplish the impossible.

We need to get a revelation that he can do ANYTHING! NOTHING is too difficult for him!

We have all experienced God's amazing answers to our prayers, even though, at times, we didn't think it could be answered. Then, when the answer came, we could not believe he answered our prayer! We have all, at some point, been astounded by the things God has done in our lives. Take a few minutes to list a few of them. This is a great reason to journal. We cannot remember everything! He has done far more than we can even recall! Jesus did so many things in his short time on earth that the bible says they could not all be written down. Amazing!

Is there something in your life that you believe God cannot do? If it lines up with his word and his will, his purposes and plans, he will do it. It may not look like what we think, and it may not be in the time frame we are hoping for. His ways are higher. It is all about believing and trusting him in everything, and sticking with his plan, not ours!

  • "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
  • "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5
  • "And this is the confidence we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his word, he hears us, and if we know that he hears us, then we know that we have the petition he has desired of us." 1 John 5:15
  • "I watch over my word to perform it." Jeremiah 1:12

Lesson Five ~ El Shaddai, Almighty God, Part Two ~

God instructs Abraham to walk before him and be blameless. (Genesis 17:1)

The Hebrew word for "before" is "panim" (#6440) - it means to turn, a face, the surface of a body, a synonym for a person's appearance.  Beth Moore, in The Names of God, describes this idea as "walk facing me - stay face to face - stay to the front."

The Hebrew word for "blameless" is "tamiym" (SC#8549) - it means integrity, truth, without blemish, without spot, complete, full, perfect, sincerely, sound, undefiled, upright, whole.

Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, honor, good character, ethics, righteousness, virtue, decency, fairness, sincerity, truthfulness, trustworthiness. It is also defined as the state of being whole and undivided. Unity, togetherness, solidarity.

When we walk blamelessly, in integrity and truth, we are positioned to have fellowship with God.

  • “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.” Psalm 25:21
  • “In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.” Psalm 41:12

The word "blameless" includes the further definition of without blemish or spot. Christ our Redeemer is described as a lamb without blemish or spot.

God made us, the Bride of Christ, to be holy, like him. We are commanded to conduct our lives in holiness, but we can't make ourselves holy. Only God can make us holy. He has placed us in a position of holiness. He accomplished this through the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ. We are to walk it out with him one day at a time. One day, we, the church, the Bride of Christ, will be presented holy and blameless to our Bridegroom, the LORD Jesus Christ. We will take a closer look at "holiness" when we study Yahweh Mekoddishkem, The LORD our Sanctifier.

  • (You were redeemed) “with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:19
  • We are instructed to "make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him." 2 Peter 3:14
  • “Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked.” Daniel 12:10
  • "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-27
  • ”And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you maybe able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1:9-11
  • “The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.” Proverbs 11:3

Faith and love need to be perfected in us. This happens when our faith and works are working together, getting a revelation of God's love for us, as we endure trials and love our enemies.

The New Testament Greek word for "perfect" is the word "teleios (#5046)." It means complete, (in various applications of labor, growth, mental character, etc.), completeness, of full age, man, perfect.
  • “Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected.” James 2:21-22
  • “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
  • “We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.” 1 John 4:16-17
  • “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and send rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even the pagans do that?  Be perfect, just as your father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48

Summary ~

No one is blameless, spotless or perfect. Only God can make that happen in us. We are all in process. When we take our eyes off of God, it is easier to allow sin in our lives. This breaks our fellowship with Him. When that happens, he wants us to stop, genuinely repent, receive His forgiveness, change our ways and move forward. We learn as we go. We learn through the Word of God. We learn from our sin. We are in the process of being perfected, but we will not be perfect until we are presented to our Bridegroom.

Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity and One with the Father, kept his eyes on his Heavenly Father. He only did what he saw his Father do.

"I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does, the Son does also." John 5:19

Jesus Christ is TRUTH and LOVE.

"He is the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6)
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." (John 15:13)

Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, spotless, sinless and without blemish, who came to take away the sin of the world. He endured trials and he was obedient unto death on the cross.

"During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him." Hebrews 5:7-9

Jesus was and is perfectly united with his Father. Jesus prayed that he himself would be in us, and his Father would be in him, that we may become perfectly one, so that the world would know that the Father sent him and loved us like he loved His Son. (John 17:23) This word "perfectly" is the Greek word teleioo (#5048) and means to complete, accomplish or consummate, consecrate, finish, fulfill, make perfect.

"When that which is perfect comes, the imperfect will disappear." (1 Corinthians 13:10)

We are designed for fellowship with God.

Once he has revealed himself to us, we are to keep our eyes on him. We get to walk in faith and obedience, trusting him.  He wants us to communicate with him. He wants us to listen to him and talk to him. He wants us to inquire of him as we go through the different seasons of our lives. Staying in an attitude of communication with him throughout each day will help us stay connected him.

We have been called to do what Jesus Christ did.

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.” John 14:12-14

God wants us to enjoy a genuine relationship with him. He loves to be with us. That is what he is after with us. That is what his Son died for. That is what his goal is for us. That is the gospel…the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST! (See John 3:16) He wants to be with us, His creation. Forever. He has made provision for that through the blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Faith and love are being perfected in us. Get a revelation of God's love for you and the whole world!

With those things in mind, it seems reasonable that Paul earnestly desires for us to walk worthy of the LORD's calling. “Therefore, I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.” Ephesians 4:1

Lesson Three ~What the name Adonai means to me.

Adonai, you had a major purpose for your servant Abram. As his Master, you made provision to carry out your will through him. The ultimate goal would be for everyone to know, love and be with you forever!

Just as you were Abraham’s shield and reward, so you are also our shield and reward! None of your servants can do it on their own, we must rely on you. When we are in a situation where we cannot make something happen that you have promised, we can look to you and trust you to make it happen, no matter how long we have been waiting or how we think it should happen.

This Master/Servant relationship falls mainly on you to provide for, protect and guide us. Our part is to trust, obey, serve and love you with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength. When we lose our lives in serving we will find it in you. Because we love you, we can obey you! When it seems difficult to obey, we think of the price you paid to purchase us and we are grateful to be owned by you. You taught that the servant is the greatest of all. We are great in your eyes when we serve you. You even notice the smallest things we do! We praise you that we are completely owned by you, and that we are your purchased possession.

Jesus, if you learned obedience, you want us to learn obedience. When we serve others, we will remember that we are doing everything as unto you, not men. You set an excellent example for us. We must have the same attitude as you when serving. (Philippians 2:5-11)

We will try to serve and minister to others wholeheartedly and sincerely, with humility and kindness. Our servant attitude should include fasting, prayer, righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Your will should be accomplished from our hearts, with reverence and awe for you, for it is you we are serving. We will do this with love, and not as an obligation. We will serve with a peaceful spirit and not with strife, arguing or complaining. We will serve others the way we would want to be served.

Through our servant-hood, people will come to know you. If we are pleasing you in the way we serve others, we will also be pleased and so will others.

We choose whom we will obey every time we make a choice about anything. We are  willing slaves to your righteousness.

Everything our master has learned from his father he has shown us. We know your business and are about it! The servant is where his master is. You will hear us when we pray because of our servant submission.

If we make right decisions, our hearts won’t be condemned and we will have confidence before you and receive from you anything we ask, because we obey your commands, stay in your will, and do what pleases you. 1 John 3:21

We worship and obey you by submitting our thoughts, minds, words, actions, bodies, gifts and hearts to you alone. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. That means that we are not our own. We were bought with a great price, so we will honor you with our bodies. We will keep our bodies pure and holy, which is a reasonable service for us to make. Have your way in every area of our lives as you continue to transform us into your image.

Equip us in the authority we have been given over those you have called us to lead and influence. If we stay humble you will exalt us. As your servants, we will receive your blessings and eternal rewards! Just as the servants who poured the water and saw it turn into wine before their very eyes, we will serve you and see miracles too!

Summary ~

El Roi, We praise you, The God Who Sees Us! You are the only one who sees everything. We take great comfort and security in knowing that we are always in your sight, and that your eyes never leave our loved ones. This means that when we cannot see our loved ones, we can have peace knowing that you see them.

When you are the only one who sees something good we do, you reward us. While you are watching us, you teach us. Our hearts are formed and strengthened by you. You see us. You hear us. You deliver and protect us. You examine us.

When our hearts are pure, we are going to see you! We will always seek your face!
We will gaze on your beauty, power and glory as we seek you in the temple! Our faces cannot help but radiate your glory when we have beheld you!

What a divine mystery that, even though we have not seen you, you have given us faith to believe in you, and we are blessed.  We love you, and we truly are filled with amazing joy as we walk in our salvation.

Hallelujah, there is going to come a day, a promised day, when we will all see you face to face! We praise you that when you appear, we shall be like you, for we shall see you as you are. As we are transformed into your image, give us your eyes to see the beauty of who you are. We will proclaim the beauty of your holiness to the world!

Give us your eyes to see ourselves and our situations the way you do. Give us your eyes to see people the way you see them and give others your eyes to see us the way you see us! When we recognize Christlike qualities in others, when we notice anything good in someone, we will not allow the moment to pass without telling them about it!

God Hears Us!

Lesson Four ~ A Psalm to the God Who Sees Me

FACE TO FACE

I CANNOT SPEAK
I CANNOT BREATHE
I CANNOT MOVE
I CANNOT THINK

I CAN ONLY LOOK AT YOU
YOUR FACE
YOUR EYES
YOUR SMILE...

Your eyes have been on me every second of my life. Your eyes saw me before I was born.

Your eyes have watched me as you have drawn me to yourself.

Your eyes have seen me at my worst and at my best.

Your eyes have studied and examined me.

Your eyes have searched the entire earth to be there for me, because my heart was turned toward you.

Your eyes have led me as my Shepherd, to rivers of living water and the bread of life.

Your eyes have been on me while you instructed and commanded me.

There has never been one moment that you have not beheld me with your eyes...The eyes of God that see and know everything.

And now... here I stand, looking into your eyes.
They penetrate into my eyes and go right into me.
I can think now, but only of you and your abundant, powerful love that comes pouring through your eyes into the very center of my being.

Your thoughts are now clearly placed into me. I am completely united with you. Your presence fills me to overflowing. I breathe you in as air. You are totally sustaining me.

We embrace each other – a bride united with her bridegroom...Something that we have both anticipated – knowing this moment would finally arrive and be the beginning of an eternal adventure.

A holy kiss mixed with my tears and your radiant, comforting smile. I will not close my eyes…Is this too good to be true?

Your face remains before me as I realize by your smile that I am your beloved.

You understand and love me uniquely and completely.

I am at incomprehensible peace and my joy is full. My long-awaited desire is finally realized, and it will last forever. There is no end to the future. The here and now will be forever. There is no limit to the love, joy and peace that is finally here and yet to come.

I am in you and you are in me. I knew this would be indescribably amazing, but there was no way to really know until now.

To be free from sin, worry and fear.
It is glorious!

I know your love completely. I am able to fully convey my love for you. It blesses you. It delights you. It amazes and fulfills me.

Your smile becomes my smile.

As we walk together, facing each other and holding hands tightly, we speak precious words to each other.

Oh, the mystery of what we will say keeps me burning for that day!

Until then, I hear you – I am your sheep – I follow and obey you alone – as I am more and more aware of you guiding me with your eyes of unfailing love, mercy and grace.

I know you see me looking to you – the author and finisher of my faith.

My eyes are on you LORD, My eyes are on you!
